***Our Goal***

Our goal is to explore textile manipulation and the diversity of mixed media

as an art form.

BIO created for the Art Center, January 2008 and Exhibition List

***Definition of an art quilt***

An Art Quilt is an original exploration of a concept or idea rather than the handing down of a “pattern”.  It  experiments with textile manipulation, color, texture and/or a diversity of mixed media.  An Art Quilt  pushes quilt world boundaries.  An Art Quilt should consist predominately of fiber or  fiber-like material with one or more layers  held together with stitches or piercing of the layers.

     Art Center Exhibit, August, 2008

Co-chairs:  Kathleen Bryan, Sandra Lee, Lezlie Sage

Liason to the Steering Committee:  Christie Barton

"ENCRUSTED"

"Instinctively humans gravitate to things that shine.  Sparkle, gloss, glisten, glow, radiance, reflection, luster, embellish, brilliant, adorn, garnish, ornament; the descriptive words alone are pleasing to us.

Encrusted:  Art quilts celebrating all that glitters."

We will learn a more professional hanging system with this show.  Velcro will be attached to the back of the quilt and to a slat for the wall.  This hanging system is preferred by Translations Gallery in Denver for it's professional "hang".  Sandra Hoefner will teach a workshop so delay putting on your sleeves.  Older pieces are being allowed for this exhibit, pieces finished after August 2005 will qualify.  Works should not have been previously exhibited in Grand Junction.
