Attention!! During the next year, we will spend about 15-20 minutes per monthly meeting discussing the theory behind the art we make. Knowing that we have many, many talented artists who already understand these concepts, all voices are urged to join the dialogue. Please bring art quilts you have made that offer examples of the following:
ELEMENTS OF ART:
September, 2006: Creativity and Creative Problem Solving
(a learnable, transferable four-part system of thinking)
October 2006: Line
(length, width, direction, psychology, textural aspects)
November 2006: Shape
(positive/negative space, organic/geometric, 2-D/3-D)
January 2007: Color
(hue, value scale, intensity, color theory and color wheel)
February 2007: Texture and Pattern
(smooth, rough, bumpy…)
PRINCIPLES OF DESIGN AND ORGANIZATION:
March 2007: Balance
(symmetry, asymmetry, radial, spiraling, branching)
April 2007: Contrast
(complementary colors, varying textures, line/shape changes)
May 2007: Emphasis
(size, position, contrast, detail…)
June 2007: Rhythm
(peaceful, agitated, regular, irregular patterns)
You may choose to bring a three-ring binder, as each of these boot camps will have hand-outs. Please bring a pen/pencil for notes. Let’s have some design fun and help each other with our artistic compositions!
