Sandra Hoefner

Sandra's design orientation is concerned with the rhythmic movement of the curved line. In quilts containing the figure, artistic expression comes into play with the rhythm and relationship of the parts of the body. Sandra emphasizes lines with contrasting colors which are added as a slender cord of piping, giving the figures a striking touch.  Although Sandra occasionally works in an abstract style, she always returns to the figure as she creates a story with ironic and amusing overtones. These narrative, figurative art quilts come from her personal experiences with people, animals and ancestor's photos. This figurative fiber art is hand appliqued and quilted.

She has exhibited at such venues as Art Quilts at the Sedgwick, International Quilt Festival, Houston, American Quilter's Society, Paducah, Great Pacific Northwest Quilt Show, Seattle, Crafts National, State College, PA, and Earth, Fibre, Fire in Anchorage.

Sandra gives trunk shows and workshops on her piped applique technique and the design of figurative art quilts. See an article in Quilter's Newsletter that features her technique.
